sounds like you are using PGP/MIME with your blackberry then,
which is a good idea. GPGMail should be able to deal with that
perfectly fine - unless Blackberry does something special in how
they deal with formatting.

To look into this, we need a test mail sent from your
blackberry. Please send an encrypted mail to
team@gpgtoolsDOTorg

Then it would be very helpful to also attach the sent mail from
your blackberry to this discussion. Not sure how to extract it from
the blackberry. But if you use IMAP you can also extract the mail
from your Sent folder on the desktop.

To do that:

open a new finder window

drag the mail in question to the finder

attach the resulting .eml file to this discussion

All the best, steve

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-14T19:11:55Z2014-04-14T19:11:56ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Hi,
thanks for your quick response!

Where can I find your public key?

Usertag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-15T16:30:20Z2014-04-15T16:30:20ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

On OS X:

open GPG Keychain Access

cmd + f to search for a key

paste our fingerprint

And download the public key.

On Blackberry I don't know, never used one. But I'm sure there's
a search option as well.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-16T11:07:49Z2014-04-16T11:07:50ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Everything's done. I did not sign the email if I remember
correctly. And I have censored my email address (powerful, lovely,
little TextEdit! :-D).

By the way, there's one thing that confuses me. I sent the email
to my account via BCC so that I can attach it here. But why can I
read the email on my Mac though it has been encrypted with your
public key?

Usertag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-16T11:10:51Z2014-04-16T11:10:52ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Where's my attachment?
all outgoing mail is also encrypted with your own public key.
Otherwise no sent mail would be readable for you at a later point
in time.

Correction: KeyID is not put into mail-header when BCC is
used.

Well look into your attached mail soon. Will update this
discussion then.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-19T17:27:45Z2014-04-19T17:27:46ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Hello.

"all outgoing mail is also encrypted with your own public
key."

Ah, I see. Quite obvious, since I have to choose the private key
of the email address I want to send from for encryption.

Usertag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-19T17:31:35Z2014-04-19T17:31:35ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Not obvious in the reagard you mention. You have to choose the
sec key only for signing purposes.

Since you are the only person with access to the sec key and the
passphrase the recipient then can verify your signature with your
pub key and know that you are indeed the author of the mail.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-19T18:21:51Z2014-04-19T18:21:53ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

I have to choose the sec key too if I don't sign. PGpgp (from
third party, not from Blackberry itself) is not an email client, it
is just for encrypting and decrypting with OpenPGP. But you can
share the encrypted text with the (in the OS integrated) Blackberry
email client. So, if I want to decrypt an incoming email, I have to
copy the code and paste it into PGpgps decrypting field.
I found this matter also on the support website.

quote <a href=

Encryption uses public key from: (default private key - from the

Have you already had a look on it? :-)

Usertag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-25T09:59:36Z2014-04-25T09:59:36ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Correction to previous post: KeyID is not put into mail-header

As for your initial question.

If you see a .txt attachment (like in the test mail you've
attached here) all is fine. Double klick the txt to show the
decrypted file.

If you see an .asc attachment:

Open with TextEdit

use GPGServices to decrypt

Does that work?

Best, steve

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-04-25T19:41:19Z2014-04-25T19:41:20ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Your workaround via TextEdit and the services works with both,
asc and txt, just fine.

But still my problem is there:
1. I send a new encrypted E-Mail from my Blackberry (to my second
email address).
2. I receive the email on my Mac and cannot read the content (only
encrypted code) in both the preview (space) and TextEdit (double
click).
3. I quit Apple Mail and start it again. I can read the encrypted
content (without typing in my GPG-password) of THIS email. Other,
older encrypted emails are not necessarily readable but still
encrypted.
4. I switch to Safari to write this reply.
5. I switch to Apple Mail and cannot read THIS same email. Mail was
still open in background.
6. I restart Apple Mail and can read THIS email again.
...

I don't know if phenomenon you can see in the attached image is
interesting.

Usertag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-05-28T14:26:55Z2014-05-28T14:26:55ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

Hi,

is there any chance you could create a quick screen video for us
so we can see your workflow? (It's easy to do with Quicktime)
One thing I'm seeing is, that the email you're writing from
Blackberry has a very weird structure. It encloses the encrypted
content in an attachment. While this would be great if it was
structured according to the PGP/MIME standard, it's not in this
case, because the structure doesn't follow any known standard.
If it's possible for you to simply insert the encrypted content as
text, GPGMail should be able to correctly decrypt it and display
the decrypted content directly (not in an attachment)

Luke Letag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/325409712014-05-28T19:38:18Z2014-05-28T19:38:21ZGPGMail: Attachments are not always properly decrypted [was cooperation PGpgp (BlackBerry OS 10 app) and]

"If it's possible for you to simply insert the encrypted content
as text, GPGMail should be able to correctly decrypt it and display
the decrypted content directly (not in an attachment)" Well, as I
said in the very beginning, plain text is not recognized by GPGMail
at all. But I will try it again.

I hope my workflow helps. Please download it within 30 days,
since it will then be deleted automatically. ;-)
